BSA Troop 42 was founded in San Mateo in 1958 with the goal of having an organization to teach boys skills and leadership. Our alumni have credited our Troop with many of their skills and successes beyond Scouting.

To Troop 42,
Thank you. Troop 42 has had such a big impact on my life as I have grown throughout the years. I am proud to now be able to call myself an Eagle Scout. It has been a long road, but I couldn’t imagine having done it with any other group of men. The memories and connections I made I hope will last a life time.
I would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Shiratori and Mr. Dodge. Mr. Shiratori was incredibly helpful during my Eagle Project. He brought experience and handy work to the table, and made sure we did things right. He made sure us scouts were safe by taking charge of the wood cutting. Without him, the project would take much longer and we would have made many more mistakes. For that, I say thank you Mr. Shiratori.
Mr. Dodge was my Eagle Advisor and worked with me to help me understand the world that is becoming an Eagle Scout. Even when I was unmotivated or procrastinating, Mr. Dodge was there to help me through it. He was available to meet with me when I had questions, and made sure I had the countless pages of paperwork in order. Thank you so much for all your help, Mr. Dodge.
Upon completion of my Eagle Rank, I received several congratulatory messages. Among the senders were Mr. Swami, Mr. Graham, Mr. Lin, Mr. Villanueva, and Mr. Dodge. To all of you, thank you for reaching out to me with your kind words. It meant a lot to me that I was in your thoughts. Thank you for your influence on me over the years. If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to NOT PROCRASTINATE YOUR EAGLE PROJECT SCOUTS! I was told the same thing countless times, and I still did it. Get it over with so you don’t have to worry about it your senior year!
I am proud to say I am an Eagle Scout, but I am even more proud to say I am a member of Troop 42. This troop has been incredibly special to me, and has taught me so much. They taught me how to start a fire, how to cook a meal, how to tie knots, how to teach others, and most importantly, Troop 42 taught me how to Lead the Way.
